Marcus Rashford shows true Man United feelings with new Barcelona message amid transfer wait
Marcus Rashford has made his feelings on Manchester United clear in a social media update referencing Aston Villa, Barcelona and England.
Marcus Rashford has posted a New Year's without making reference to Manchester United. The 28-year-old is currently thriving on loan at Barcelona with seven goals and 11 assists from 24 appearances in all competitions.
It's been a very fruitful year for Rashford having been recalled to the England squad for the form he showed in temporary stints at both Aston Villa and Barcelona.
Rashford has been able to compile the highlights of his year into nine photos on popular social media platform Instagram, mostly of him representing Barcelona but also England and Villa.
In s caption, he said: "As 2025 comes to a close, I'm grateful for a year of change and self reflection. Stepping into 2026 feeling excited, motivated, and ready to be ambitious both in sport and life. MR14 [red and blue heart emoji]."
While there is no direct mention of United, his Villa photo is of the penalty he scored against Manchester City, which certainly suggests he's proud of that moment.
The winter break in Spain has resulted in Rashford and Barcelona having an extended period off with their last outing coming 10 days ago on Sunday, December 21. Rashford was named on the subs bench for that 2-0 victory, but he came on for the final 28 minutes.
Hansi Flick opted to start Raphinha, Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal as the attacking trio behind the same striker with those three also deployed from the off for the Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Rashford later grabbed an assist of the subs bench in that game.
Despite having been left out twice, Rashford had the perfect reaction to the team selection call, as revealed by Flick.
He said: "I try to speak to every player when they are not selected and the last time I checked with him he replied me; 'Boss, you don't have to tell me about your decisions'," Flick said on Rashford. "'The most important thing is the team. We have to win the three points. The rest is not that important'."
"This is the perfect mentality. I'm so happy to have him. When he is on the bench, he shows that we have a good and deep squad. What I can say is that he is an absolutely professional player. In the beginning, he had to adapt a little bit, but now he is at his best level."
It is perhaps no surprise that most Spanish outlets are reporting that Flick would like Barcelona to sign Rashford from United on a permanent deal next summer.
The buy-option included in his switch is believed to be around £26million. Despite it being so cheap, it remains to be seen whether or not Barcelona could actually afford that - given their well-known financial difficulties.
Some reports have claimed that Barcelona must choose between Rashford and a marquee striker signing with long-term concerns over 37-year-old Robert Lewandowski.
