Arsenal hold talks for "monster" Real Madrid target ahead of January
Arsenal have two Premier League fixtures left before the opening of the January transfer window, and sporting director Andrea Berta has held talks over a move for a promising young defender.
Brighton confident ahead of trip to Arsenal
Brighton head to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday winless in four games, but boss Fabian Hurzeler is confident ahead of his side's visit to the league leaders: “Why should we change is the question? We know what the issue is, we have to overcome the consistency thing and play for 90 minutes well.
“We have shown we are capable of doing big things, and the most important is to do the small margins right against Arsenal.
“Stay alive for the 90 minutes, but we can’t go there with the mindset of only to defend.
“We have to play with courage and bring our style of play to the pitch.
“We know that we can beat every team in the league and, although it will be a big challenge, we go there to win.”
Brighton’s record at Arsenal is cause for optimism, as the Seagulls have won three and drawn two of their previous seven league games at the Emirates Stadium, losing just twice.
Mikel Arteta meanwhile fumed at Declan Rice's dismissal in this fixture last year, admitting this week he has not forgotten the bizarre manner in which the midfielder was sent off.
The Arsenal mananger has just days to wait before he can add to his squad in the winter transfer window, and Berta has already gotten a head start on proceedings.
Arsenal hold talks for Rennes defender Jacquet
According to The Athletic, the Gunners have held talks over the future of Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet.
Berta has been involved in 'exploratory' discussions over the 20 year-old, who has shot to stardom in Ligue 1 this season, attracting interest from Real Madrid.
Scout Antonio Mango has described the young defender as a "monster", praising his "physicality, pace, athleticism and technical ability" as a "true combination of unique elements".
Arsenal have dealt with injuries in defence throughout the season, with each of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White and Piero Hincapié missing time.
Jacquet would arrive as a long-term project from a club who have produced the likes of Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, but the youngster already ranks highly against centre-backs in the 'big five' leagues for tackles, interceptions and attacking threat.
