Wayne Rooney predicts what will happen with Enzo Maresca at Chelsea after post-Everton rant
Enzo Maresca surprised many with his explosive outburst after Saturday’s Everton win, and Wayne Rooney thinks it could make life at Chelsea more difficult for all involved.
Despite grabbing a convincing win over the Toffees at the weekend, Maresca’s post-match comments have taken all the headlines.
Some Chelsea chiefs are fed up with Maresca after recent results, exacerbated by this out-of-the-blue attack.
Premier League legend Wayne Rooney has given his view on the situation and what it could mean for the Italian’s future at Stamford Bridge.
Wayne Rooney not impressed with Enzo Maresca after ‘premeditated’ rant
It seems pretty clear that Maresca was frustrated with the way he and his side have been talked about after some recent poor results.
Rooney understands this, but reckons it has put the Chelsea boss in a predicament.
After comparing Maresca’s comments to the explosive ones made by Mohamed Salah recently, Rooney says he has done himself no favours with the owners.
On the latest episode of The Wayne Rooney Show, he remarks: “You’ve got to respect the owners of a football club. They employ you and bring you in, so it’s their way and I feel he’s gone a bit against that.

“It is something that’s clearly happened, whether it’s a disagreement or he feels his job is under pressure and he doesn’t feel it should be because of the two trophies he’s won and the points he’s picked up.”
Whatever his reasons, Maresca has caused quite a stir at Stamford Bridge, and might have done himself more harm than good by making his true feelings known.
As Rooney puts it: “I don’t think he’ll get the protection now he’s come out and done what he has done. That will be very difficult for the club to come and protect him, which is a shame.”
There’s already talk of who could replace Maresca at Chelsea if bridges have truly been burned, but surely this isn’t how his end arrives.
Maresca should have credit in the bank with Chelsea
As much as this situation is undesirable for the ownership, it doesn’t erase the successful 18 months the Blues have enjoyed under Maresca.
The job of a manager in England, especially at a big club, is a pressure-filled role that can cause emotions to run high.
No doubt there will be meetings between Maresca and BlueCo to dissect the events of the weekend, but there’s no reason why it can’t be discussed and put aside.
This is a pivotal stretch in the season and one which calls for stability and consistency — not an overhaul. Hopefully, that’s how they feel as well.
